Taylor Swift’s Brazil tour has been marred by tragedy as the singer shared the heartbreaking news of a fan’s passing before her performance.
According to a report from Brazilian newspaper Folha de S.Paulo, the young woman identified as Ana Clara Benevides, a 23-year-old fan, experienced a health emergency, specifically cardiorespiratory arrest, at the venue. She was swiftly transported to Salgado Filho Municipal Hospital, where, unfortunately, she succumbed.
The “Anti Hero” singer took to her Instagram story after the show to express her deep sorrow, stating, “I can’t believe I’m writing these words but it is with a shattered heart that I say we lost a fan earlier tonight before my show.”
Swift’s note continued with a poignant tribute to the departed fan, “I can’t even tell you how devastated I am by this. There’s very little information I have other than the fact that she was so incredibly beautiful and far too young.”
Struggling with the overwhelming grief, the Grammy winner conveyed her emotions, stating, “I’m not going to be able to speak about this from stage because I feel overwhelmed by grief when I even tried to talk about it.”
Expressing her condolences, Swift added, “I want to say now I feel this loss deeply, and my broken heart goes out to her family and friends.” She concluded by expressing her shock at the unexpected turn of events, saying, “This is the last thing I ever thought would happen when we decided to bring this tour to Brazil.”
