Actors are not permitted to dress up as well-known characters from the content that is currently being produced and then post the photos online.

This rule excludes some of the most well-liked Halloween outfits from this year, including Barbie and Wednesday Addams.

The guild advised members to “pick costumes inspired by generalized characters and figures, such as ghost, zombie, spider, etc.” on Thursday. However, I’m sure someone will show up at a party dressed as a fake Carol Lombardini.

However, members can dress up as figures from non-struck content, such as an animated television program. Despite having comic book roots, Marvel superheroes are not permitted because they are owned by Disney.

I look forward to yelling “scab” at my 8-year-old all night, Ryan Reynolds jokingly wrote about the rule in a post on X. She is not a member of the union, but she must learn.

Even though Barbie, for example, is owned by Mattel, the appearance of promoting the summer’s biggest movie from a major studio would undoubtedly be frowned upon, and the whole point is to be aware of the message that a costume might convey. A really tenacious fan could make this argument about character ownership on technical grounds.

The post continued, “Let’s use our collective power to send a loud and clear message to our struck employers that we will not promote their content without a fair contract.”.

After talks with studios broke down on Saturday without a deal, the SAG-AFTRA strike is getting close to its 100th day.

It’s conceivable that actors could dress up as struck characters if they weren’t publicly recognized in their costumes, but it’s probably best to take no chances since getting exposed for scabbing is the scariest possible scenario.
