Shawn Levy, the director of Deadpool 3, recently revealed some tea about the ideas that went into making the superhero trilogy. He disclosed that the movie drew inspiration from Star Wars for a pivotal scene.
While enjoying a large-scale film in a packed theater, Levy thought about the importance of the real, communal event that enthralls and shapes the audiences.
He named Return of the Jeri (1983) and specifically mentioned a scene in which he saw Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker interacting.
Shawn Levy was inspired by this scene from Star Wars.
Levy described the moment that left the theater in dead silence in an essay he wrote for Esquire, according to Entertainment Weekly. as well.
“I can still clearly recall the scene where Luke is in the Emperor’s chamber hiding from Vader, and Vader concludes his speech by saying, ‘If you will not turn to the dark side, then perhaps your sister will,'” the writer wrote.
He continues, saying that he is still in awe of the nearly 40 seconds of silence that were followed by the display of emotions.
Even though he didn’t specifically state which scene in Deadpool 3 was modeled after the Star Wars scene, he promised that keen-eyed viewers would be able to identify the shot in the superhero spinoff.
