Zara McDermott, the 26-year-old TV personality, bid farewell to Strictly Come Dancing 2023 following a dance-off with Adam Thomas on Sunday. During an appearance on the spin-off show “It Takes Two” to discuss her time on the BBC competition, Zara was pleasantly surprised by her boyfriend Sam Thompson.

Reflecting on her journey, Zara became emotional as she said, “It’s been a real rollercoaster of emotions these past few days, just processing everything.” She shared how difficult it was to face the morning without going to training and how she texted her dance partner Graziano Di Prima expressing her sadness.

Zara went on to express her sentiments, saying, “I spent seven weeks, 12 hours a day, with this man, and now it’s over. It’s sad! It’s really sad!”

Host Fleur East then revealed a pre-recorded message from Sam, which touched Zara deeply. In the message, Sam conveyed his immense pride in her accomplishments over the past seven weeks on the show. He recalled her initial doubt, saying she’d be gone after the first week, and praised her for lasting seven weeks. Sam concluded with, “What you’ve achieved is so admirable, I love you.”

Tears welled up in Zara’s eyes as she responded, “It’s just honestly amazing. Having him there on Saturday night was really special, seeing him in the audience and giving him a big wave before the performance. Having him there for that moment was just so special.”

She also expressed her deep gratitude for Graziano and became emotional again as she said, “This human being right here [Graziano] is what I’m going to miss the most because he is the most special, beautiful soul in the world.”

Over the weekend, Zara found herself in the dance-off against Adam Thomas as both celebrities gave it their all to impress the judges one last time. Zara’s Charleston to “Jeepers Creepers” by Al Donahue and his Orchestra earned her 25 out of 30 points.

After both couples performed again in the dance-off, the judges rendered their verdicts. Craig Revel Horwood chose to save Adam and Luba, noting that they had excelled in their routine.
