In the fall of 2024, the acclaimed book The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins will make its live stage debut for the first time.
The first book in Collins’ series and the first movie in Lionsgate’s dystopian franchise have been adapted for the theater by Olivier Award-winning playwright Conor McPherson. The production will be directed by Matthew Dunster, who previously oversaw Hangmen and 2:22 – A Ghost Story.
Collins said in a statement, “I’m very excited to be working with the amazing team of Conor McPherson and Matthew Dunster as they bring their dynamic and innovative interpretation of The Hunger Games to the London stage.”.
The author’s endorsement was “humbling and inspiring,” according to McPherson, who echoed the excitement. 24 young tributes are pitted against one another in a lethal arena in The Hunger Games play, which will bring the story from the book to life. The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, which Collins wrote as a prequel chapter, will be adapted into a movie and released in theaters in November. The stage production’s creative team is made up of fight director Kev McCurdy, set designer Miriam Buether, costume designer Moi Tran, choreographer Charlotte Broom, lighting designer Lucy Carter, sound designer Ian Dickinson for Autograph, video designer Tal Rosner, casting director Amy Ball, production manager Gary Beestone, and performer flying by John Maddox for Suspended Illusions.
Producers of The Hunger Games play include Tristan Baker, Charlie Parsons, Oliver Royds, BOS Productions, and Isobel David through a deal with Lionsgate.
